I would like to thank Thomas Kober for his two years of service to the band students at O’Connor High School. If you have not heard Mr. Kober has accepted a position at Brennan High School in NISD. We wish Mr. Kober the best in his new journey.
In the last few weeks we have had amazing applicants for the open position at O’Connor. We are very excited to introduce to you the new band director of the Panther Band. Jaime G. Ramos has been named the new band director at OC joining veterans Roland Sandoval, George G. Garza and Wesley Perkins. Jaime is coming to us having served as a band director in the Cy Fair ISD in Houston Texas for the last three years. Jaime is a San Antonio native and a 2008 honors graduate of Judson High School. Mr. Ramos is a 2013 Cum Laude graduate of the University of Houston. He is a gifted musician and performer. While at U of H Mr. Ramos was the Principle Trombone in the nationally recognized U of H Wind Ensemble, Symphony Orchestra, Jazz Orchestra, Opera Orchestra and the trombone section leader in the Spirit of Houston Cougar Marching Band. In those ensembles he was a featured soloist at such prestigious performances as the Midwest, TMEA and CMEA Conventions. His college band directors and professors include Texas band and jazz legends David Bertman, Marion West, Noe Marmolejo and John Benzer.
Mr. Ramos has worked with both MS and HS level students over the last three years. He worked at the largest middle school band program in Cy Fair ISD and taught all beginning low brass, trumpet and saxophone classes. The bands at his MS were all UIL Sweepstakes recipients. His HS band work includes working on the visual staff at the award winning programs at Cy-Fair, Cy-Springs. Seven Lakes, and Langham Creek High Schools in Houston Texas. He is a two-year veteran of the World Class DCI Drum Corp the CAVALIERS. In his last year marching baritone with the Cavaliers they won the DCI Silver Medal at the DCI World Championships! We are so excited to have Mr. Ramos as the new band director at O’Connor and he will be a wonderful resource for our students and community!
