This Saturday, April 2, 2015 is the Helotes Cornyval Parade in which the band and guard will march. All Fall Marching Guard members are invited to participate and all Winter Guard members are required to attend (unless prior arrangements with Ms. Shepherd have been made.)
Call time on Saturday is between 7:30-8:00am at OC. All members have to be ready on the practice field in uniform with equipment/instruments by 8:15-8:30am, so please plan accordingly for traffic and road closures around O’Connor/Kuentz and Leslie Road.) The parade starts at 9:30am and the busses will return to the school around 12pm (again depending on traffic.)
Color Guard dress code is warm up shirt, dark jeans and black tennies. (FYI, band dress code is black marching shoes, black socks, band shirt, jeans and belt.)
There will be a mandatory guard practice on Thursday, 4/30/15 at 7:00am (warm-up starts at 6:50am) and a mandatory full band/guard practice on Friday, 05/01/15, at 7:00am.
We are still in need of chaperones – not just for guard, but for band, too. Please contact Ginger Wilks at email@example.com if you are willing to help. Please feel free to contact me, Barbara, or Ms. Shepherd with questions.
Thanks to all and hope to see everyone there!
During our recent election of officers for the 2015-2016 school year the position of 1st Vice President, Fundraising was not filled. Anyone who is interested in nominating themselves or know someone who would like to serve and is a Band Booster member may fill out the attached nomination form and send it to Mickey Ramos at firstname.lastname@example.org or Robert Vara at email@example.com. This position may be co-held by two persons if that would make it easier to serve.
The highest honor a Texas group can have is to be selected as a demonstration group for the Texas Bandmasters Association Convention. Our students will present what they do best as student musicians, performers to all Texas Band Directors. This is actually the 4th time OC Band students have been selected as a demonstration group by both the Texas Bandmasters and the Texas Music Educators Association respectively. The documents below are from the publication just sent out by TBA and you can see the great company we are in.
This is just about the coolest musical honor. For years the OC Woodwind Choirs (A1, A2, A3) have performed beautiful transcriptions by composer/arranger Clifton Jones. Yesterday Mr. Sandoval got word that this piece of music is being published by RBC Music for UIL… Awesome dedication at the top!!
