Jazz’n with Santa Food Donations

Parents and students,

Our Jazz’n with Santa fundraiser is this Sunday, Dec. 3rd. Parents and students donate sodas, cookies, and other easy to eat desserts to sell as part of the fundraiser. We’re asking parents whose student’s last name begins with A-M to bring goodies (cookies, brownies, etc.) and N-Z to bring cans of soda. Either store bought or homemade goodies are fine. I will be available to take donations before and after school Wednesday and Thursday and before school on Friday. You can also bring donations to the Ag building Sunday morning.

If you have any questions, please contact me at food@thepantherband.com.

Thank you,

Marcia Wilson

Jazz’n With Santa, Sunday December 3rd – Volunteers Needed

Next Sunday, December 3rd, is our 9th Annual Jazz’n with Santa Holiday Celebration and Arts & Crafts Show.  This event is an afternoon of fun activities for the whole family including music by our Jazz Bands as well as Jazz Bands from some of the local middle schools, pictures with Santa, cookie decorating, face painting, dessert sale, sausage plate sale and an Arts and Crafts show.  This event requires many volunteers. Most of the shifts are only for 2 hours. Adults and students can volunteer and any students who volunteer can receive service hours for their work.

Volunteer areas and times are set up in Charms for sign up.  We need help with setup, cooking the sausage, kitchen helpers, dessert table helpers, craft & cookie decorating help (this is traditionally staffed by Guard volunteers), tickets, Santa photos and clean up.

This is one of our largest band fundraisers but we can’t do it without your help.  Please sign up to volunteer and then spend the rest of the afternoon browsing the vendors at this event and listening to great Jazz music!

O’Connor Jazz student makes TEXAS ALL STATE JAZZ ENSEMBLE

O’Connor Jazz student makes TEXAS ALL STATE JAZZ ENSEMBLE

We are very proud to announce that the O’Connor Jazz Program has another student named to the Texas Music Educators Association Texas All State Jazz Ensemble.

Senior trumpet Chidy Odita-Honnah joins a great group of alumni that earned chairs in this elite ensemble. Only ten trumpet players in the entire state are selected.

Placement in Texas All-State is indicative of being ranked in the top ½ % of all music students in Texas and the top 2 % nationwide! The past OC All State students are honored in our band hallways with two hanging frames listing the year they made All-State. Annually OC band students earn the highest % of chairs in the Region Jazz & Band since the school opened!

Congratulations to Chidy on this tremendous accomplishment!
